We recognise that there will be considerable interest in the recent announcement that Dover College will no longer be merging with St Lawrence College, Ramsgate.

At Dover College, our guiding principle is always to consider what best protects the education, wellbeing and daily experience of our students, both now and in the years ahead. This is coupled with a deep respect for our local community and for the wider academic community in the region.

The merger proposal, which was initiated by St Lawrence College, was communicated to both school communities last week and proposed the formation of a combined school body from September 2026. This proposal was supported in good faith by The Repton Group, who were committed to finding a sustainable solution for the benefit of both students and staff.

Today, the governing body of St Lawrence College informed us that they have decided not to proceed with the merger. We understand that they have identified a way to continue operating their much-valued school for a longer period, and we respect their decision. The reconsideration of their plans and their financial situation are matters for their governing body and we wish them well as they move forward.

Dover College remains a stable and thriving school community. As we approach the end of the Lent term, our focus remains firmly on delivering an excellent education and maintaining a positive environment for our pupils, staff and families.

The College is grateful for the continued support of its community and looks forward to finishing the term strongly. To our pupils, parents, staff, alumni and the wider community, Dover College is moving forward with confidence.
